Tip for winter; I get lots of calls that keys don't work anymore and new locks are needed. Particularly vehicles, especially Fords. This is even more because people use remotes instead of keys to unlock the doors. The grease in the lock hardens, and turns gummy over time and with cooler weather.
Spray the lock with a suitable spray lube. I use a teflon lube sold as a gun lubricant. Silicone lube will work, not WD-40. WD-40 will work as a temporary fix if you don't have something else handy, but leaves a film that hardens up.
Use the straw and insert into the lock, short burst of spray and run the key in and out, repeat two or three times. That should free up the tumblers._
